General Studies Classes

At Legacy Academy, every child’s learning journey is uniquely designed. We believe that true learning happens when students are seen, known, and guided according to their individual strengths, challenges, and pace. Our approach blends personalized instruction in core subjects with shared, community-based exploration in concept areas: helping students build strong academic foundations while maintaining the joy, purpose, and curiosity children naturally have for learning.

Individualized Learning for Every Student

At Legacy Academy, learning is individualized to ensure that every student is both challenged and supported at their own level. In mathematics and language arts, students work within personalized pathways that meet them where they are and guide them toward mastery. Our language arts program integrates handwriting, writing, and phonics/vocabulary into a cohesive progression, allowing students to strengthen foundational literacy while growing as expressive, confident writers. Math instruction follows the same philosophy: prioritizing conceptual understanding and fluency so that each child develops both skill and confidence before moving forward.

Whole-Class Learning in Conceptual Subjects

While core skill-building subjects are individualized, concept-based areas such as social studies and science are taught in a more collective, whole-class setting. This allows students to engage in shared inquiry, discussion, and exploration. We believe that the study of history helps us understand the events and choices of the past so that we can make wiser, more compassionate decisions for the future. Likewise, science education is presented as our current understanding of the natural world: an evolving body of knowledge that encourages curiosity, observation, and wonder.

A Multi-Age, Close-Knit Classroom Community

Legacy’s multi-age classrooms reflect our belief that children learn best in dynamic communities where they can lead, learn, and collaborate across age and ability. Each classroom maintains a maximum 1:12 teacher-to-student ratio, ensuring that every child receives individualized attention within a nurturing group environment. Students learn to take responsibility for their learning while supporting their peers, creating a sense of belonging that mirrors real-world collaboration.

A Holistic and Integrated General Studies Approach

Our general studies program is carefully designed in coordination with Judaic studies classes to ensure balance, depth, and intentionality. By understanding what is taught in Judaic classes, general studies teachers can focus on complementary skills and prevent unnecessary overlap: maximizing each student’s learning time across disciplines. This integrated approach allows students to engage meaningfully with both the academic and spiritual dimensions of their education, gaining a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics while developing insight, integrity, and curiosity about the world around them.

Train a child according to his way; even when he grows old, he will not turn away from it.
